A puncture can often be repaired rather than requiring a full tyre replacement, which saves money and avoids unnecessary waste. However, repairability depends on several factors. The puncture must be in the central tread area — not in the sidewall or shoulder of the tyre. It must be caused by a nail, screw or similar object no wider than 6mm. And the tyre must have sufficient tread depth remaining to justify the cost of repair.
Sidewall punctures cannot be safely repaired under any circumstances. The sidewall flexes constantly as the tyre rolls, and any repair will be subjected to stress that could cause it to fail without warning. Similarly, if a tyre has been driven on whilst flat — even for a short distance — it is likely the internal structure has been damaged and the tyre must be replaced entirely. A trained technician will be able to tell this on inspection.
Royal Mobile Tyres carries out BS AU 159 standard puncture repairs on all eligible tyres at your location. If we determine the tyre cannot be safely repaired, we will always tell you honestly and quote for a replacement. We stock a comprehensive range of tyres from leading brands and can replace a single tyre or all four at your home, workplace or roadside anywhere in the Cardiff area.
